Ginger Page wants to improve your written English

Ginger Page wants to improve your written English

Ginger Software, an Israeli startup that focuses on ‘language enhancement software’, has released mobile, Windows and Web apps designed to make it easier to write English correctly.

Available today, the Chrome extension, desktop download and mobile apps (Android and iOS) go beyond in-line spell checking to provide users with tools for instantly rephrasing certain words and options for contextual synonyms, translations or definitions – all of which can be very useful, even if English is your first language.

In addition to providing these tools out-of-the-box, the company said its software can also learn a user’s writing style and modify suggestions and corrections to accommodate individual style.

For the Windows app and Chrome extension, all you need to do is install the software and sign-up for a free account. These are limited to a certain number of automatic corrections per week, a spokesperson for the company told TNW, but the exact number changes each week. Fear not though, apparently only around 10 percent of users will hit this cap and even if you do, Ginger will still highlight words for correction, you’ll just need to make the changes manually.

If you do find yourself needing to upgrade to a paid version, there are two tiers available and these are priced at either $4.90 or $9.40 per month, depending on your needs. There’s also a discount for buying an annual subscription rather than monthly.

Ginger’s Android and iOS apps offer similar functionality – although these are free and unlimited.

In addition to providing checking and writing tools, the Android version also includes a Ginger Page keyboard so users can make use of suggestions and corrections across any app. Following Apple’s decision to open iOS up to third-party keyboards, the company said there will soon be a keyboard for the iOS version too.
