Google today released an iOS app for Helpouts (via 9to5Mac), its Hangout-based remote learning platform, but you’ll only be able to browse free sessions.
Helpouts launched last November as a service for experts in a subject matter to earn money by chatting with users interested in learning about the topic. Categories include Art & Music, Computers & Electronics, Cooking, Education & Careers, Fashion & Beauty, Fitness & Nutrition, Health and Home & Garden.
Using the app is straightforward. I tapped through a few of the categories to find a Helpout to try and ended up having a quick chat with one Nicola Minichiello who was offering Apple device technical help. As expected, the video call started immediately and streamed without any interruptions.
While it’s nice to see Google adding iOS support for Helpouts, the free-only limitation is a drag. Still, it makes sense, as Apple would require a 30 percent cut of any transactions made in the app.
