Antivirus and online security company F-Secure has jumped into the password management space after it launched F-Secure KEY, a service that handles passwords, user names and other credentials through one master password.
The service is initially available for Mac, Windows and Android, with an iOS app listed as “coming soon”.
The service seems very much like other solutions — which include 1Password and LastPass — in that it will generate and remember complicated passwords to help strengthen the security around user accounts. Passwords are synced between devices, and are automatically filled out to making logging into websites and services more convenient.
As well as website log-ins, F-Secure KEY can store credit card details, WiFi passwords and details for home alarm systems and other connected services — all of which, the company says, “is strongly encrypted to keep it safe.”
We took the Windows app for a spin and it works as expected. The password generator lets you automatically create passwords of up to 32 characters, with the option of using a combination of lower/upper case letters, numbers and symbols.
A nice touch sees F-Secure add a news alert service to the top of the desktop app, which shows the latest hacking or data security updates.
The app is free to download and use, and is initially available in English only.
