A month after launching its Coast app for the iPad, browser-maker Opera has turned to the other major tablet demographic after introducing dedicated tablet support to its Android browser app.

There’s already a stack of browsers for the Google-owned mobile platform — including Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox — but Opera for Android, which now includes a revamped user experience for tablets with tabs rather than the regular page flipping navigation.

The browser, which is now based on Chromium 31, notably includes Off-Road mode, which minimizes data usage to maximize the use of busy WiFi connections or of data plans. The app is also built to help find content easily: the Discover feature gives access to breaking news stories and personally tailored content off the bat, while Speed Dial lets users set up quick access to websites that they visit regularly.
