New Pinterest widget to come pre-installed on millions of Android smartphones sold by Telefónica

Telefónica has struck a deal with Pinterest to pre-install a specially designed new widget on its Android customers’ handsets before they are sold. It can also be downloaded from the Google Play store by O2 UK customers, as of today.

The deal will see millions of installs of the widget where the mobile operator is present across Europe and Latin America, beginning first with O2 in the UK.

The companies say the widget will bring Pinterest to the attention of an even larger user base and give them an easy way to discover new pins right from their home screen. The app will also show the most popular pins to users, alongside a more personalized feed and push notifications for logged in users.

O2 UK customers with an Android device can access the Pinterest Widget starting today through Google Play, and pre-loading will begin “in the coming weeks”. Additional Telefónica businesses will launch the service in “due course”, the company said.

Naturally, this means you can now follow TNW’s very own Pinterest board and see our pins in your stream with virtually no effort at all. You can also Pin our articles to your own boards using the official Pin It button we’ve just added today!
