If trawling through a stream of inane comments from people you follow on Twitter in search of genuinely interesting shared links is something you find yourself doing often (and you use a Mac) it could be worth checking out POP.

Rather than bringing all of Twitter directly to your Mac’s status bar, POP filters through tweets from people you follow and brings you only the most popular links (and only links) that are being shared right now. When new links are available, the status bar icon changes to a green color.

POP’s developer Neil Kinnish is the same person that brought us Quickcast.io, a Mac app for creating shareable screencasts and animated GIFs. POP works only on a Mac, and requires OS X 10.8 or higher to run.
