Timehop, the very cool app that lets you go back in time to see your Internet and social media activity from the past, has updated its iOS app with new sharing buttons, while removing the option to view friends’ past updates.

The new sharing system is a more visual and logical improvement on its predecessor, making it more straightforward to post content to Twitter and Facebook, or share items via SMS and email.

However, there is another significant change which sees the app lose ‘friend feed,’ an opt-in feature that let you see past social media updates from friends.

This is a shame because the friend feature was a pretty neat idea. But, not to fear, Timehop says it is working on “better ways” to share past memories, and we can expect updates over the coming months — users will just need to be patient:

As part of this update, we’ve removed the friend feed from the iPhone app. Over the next few months we’ll be introducing some features designed to help you share your nostalgic moments with the right audience — better ways to share with friends and groups of friends.

The recent addition of support for Twitter archives, Dropbox and a desktop-sync client have made Timehop an app I use on a daily basis. It helps surface past moments and memories that I find practical, interesting or useful for trivia.

For example, did you know that the new Digg opened its doors to the public one year ago today?

Timehop is definitely a recommended app for anyone who regularly uses social media and likes the idea of rediscovering old moments.
