The French video sharing site Dailymotion has unleashed the latest version of its app for iOS, hot on the heels of its Android update earlier this month.
The video site is possibly one of the best Internet time-sucks with fresh user-generated and premium partner video content added at a frightening frequency.
The company’s Web site, which saw its own refresh earlier this summer, attracts more than 116 million unique monthly visitors and takes around 2 billion video views worldwide.
The global domination comes in part down to its localized service which provides 34 versions in 16 different languages. The company has also been working on expanding its service with the recent partnership with video search engine blinkx.
The latest update to the iOS app pushes standards for video consumption via mobile considerable. As many people are eyeing a new mobile device for Christmas, it makes sense that the service would brush itself down and make sure that it has something good and sticky for people to try with their new gadgets.
The new version includes a fresh interface, an improved dashboard that offers user suggestions to follow and ways to create and organize playlists.
All new videos from user subscriptions appear in a newsfeed, while popular videos can be found via the Browse tab and user histories can also now be accessed. The latest iOS edition has been adapted for iPhone 5 and latest generation iPad with Retina Display.
Earlier this month the Android version was also updated with faster video, bugfixes and fresh interface, all suited to Ice Cream Sandwich and Jellybean systems.
The Android market page for the app also promises a few treats ahead. Widgets for the home screen, a new tablet version with large previews and support for HD1080p video and DLNA and uPnP support will be added so that users can send videos direct to compatible TVs.
So, if you get bored with the Christmas holiday TV schedule, it looks as though Dailymotion is pushing a fair alternative that will easily pass the time.
