Built by ex-Googlers, Triposo now offers free mobile travel guides for 8,000 destinations

Berlin, Germany-based Triposo has released updated mobile travel guides for iOS, now offering information and maps for more than 8,000 destinations worldwide, including 5,000 small towns across America.

Created by ex-Googlers, the new apps indeed focus squarely on the United States, serving up separate downloads for each state.

Which is excellent if you want to find out what to do or eat in, say, Natchitoches, Louisiana.

It’s no coincidence, of course, that the updated interactive travel guide apps were released just in time for the holidays.

Says Triposo founder Douwe Osinga:

“Triposo may not be able to save you from fighting with in-laws or drinking too much eggnog, but it can help you make the most of your travels with new ideas about what to do in your hometown during the holiday season.”

Triposo considers location, user preferences and real-time information such as weather to essentially help people get the most out of their travels. Available for iOS and Android devices, Triposo has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times.

The startup’s investors include InterWest, Chris Sacca, Lars Rasmussen and CrunchFund. They’ve raised approximately $4.7 million to date, according to CrunchBase.
