Ever wanted to create your own Android browser? Check out Maxthon’s updated DIY tool

The real strength of the Android platform has always been its open ethos and ability for users to customise pretty much any visual component as they see fit. Maxthon, a global software company specialising in web browsers, is continuing this trend by releasing an updated version of its ‘Make Your Browser’ project, a tool that allows absolutely anyone to create a customized web browser for Android.

Now, you won’t exactly be building a personal browser from scratch. Instead, with ‘Make Your Browser’ users can choose a name, the icon or avatar that will show on the Android device, as well as a custom home page and visual skin.

Jeff Chen, CEO of Maxthon said: “It’s a fast and simple process that marries a look and feel chosen by you with the hallmarks of Maxthon Mobile; great speed, privacy, security and add-ons that create a one-of-a-kind web experience.”

The small tweaks offered by ‘Make Your Browser’ mean you can easily select an icon and overall aesthetic that will fit in with any custom skin you have already have running on your Android device. However, any budding coders will probably be disappointed by the lack of options for changing either the functionality or specific aspects of the interface for their browser.

Nevertheless, it’s a good bit of fun for any newcomer to the Android platform. For a better idea of how to get started, take a look at the video below:

So what do you think? Is this something you would be interested in trying out for your own Android smartphone?
