Last October, we reported that T-Mobile’s Bobsled service, a VoIP communication platform that initially allowed smartphone owners to call their Facebook friends from their mobile device, had expanded to provide free calls to any mobile or landline number in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico from anywhere in the world, simply by using their desktop browser.
With that in mind, a similar service has been developed by Danish mobile communications company Vopium for T-Mobile in the UK, called Clever Connect. The iOS and Android apps are now live, and Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile parent company) has sent out invitations to T-Mobile users to join in on the trial.
T-Mobile’s Clever Connect app can be used over WiFi or 3G, and as with other VoIP services will enable free calls, but only if you both have the app (similar to Skype).
This service is only available for those signed up to the T-Mobile Clever Connect trial, or if a friend on the trial has invited you to join. You can find out more here.
Once you’ve been accepted onto the trial, you’ll need to download the app and log-in to your account, using your phone number and the provided password.
This is similar to the service trialed by O2 in the UK, which works across WiFi networks. O2 Connect will allows smartphone users to use voice and text services from their normal mobile number to any UK mobile or landline number.
