This gorgeous gesture-based calculator makes math sexy

This gorgeous gesture-based calculator makes math sexy

Designed by Berger & Föhr and built by aelioxRechner is a gesture-based calculator made for the iPhone. According to its creators, this app is the first of its kind, and frankly I’ve never seen or used anything like it myself. The simplicity of the gestures reminds me of Clear, and the actual usefulness of the app is higher than you’d imagine.

As you can see in the video below, the design is beautifully minimal while staying fully functional. The creators have built the app just for a multi-touch device, and have opted not to flood the screen with various buttons like you’d find in many other calculator apps.

So long as the 5 minute learning curve doesn’t put you off, the app is very intuitive. All you need to remember is that swiping to the right is “+,” swiping to the left is “–,” swiping up is “=,” and swiping with two fingers in any direction clears the screen. These gestures turn your iPhone into the calculator it was always meant to be (believe me when I say I never thought I’d write that sentence).

From the creators:

Math is beautiful. Arithmetic is simple. Rechner is both. Experience the worlds first gesture based calculator.

Features:
– Gestural functions for + / – / = / clear
– Hidden actions drawer for x / ÷ / ± / √ / % / erase
– 200% more efficient

Sure, it’s hard to get excited about a calculator, but seeing such quality work makes me excited about the future of touch screens. Apps like Rechner and Clear are the future of interacting with glass, because they use the surface to its strengths.

I’m a huge believer that beautiful design and functionality should always be applauded, and that’s why I recommend this 99 cent app whole-heartedly. Check out the link below and let us know what you think!
