We’ve already taken a look at how the slick photo sharing site 500px has been luring away Flickr’s heavyweight photographers, and today it might manage to lure a few more people away from the ailing site.

For today only, 500px has announced that users can upgrade to a premium account for just $24.95 – the same price that Flickr charges for its Pro accounts. Using the promo code ‘boxingpixels’ will get you the reduced price, so if the $50 membership was too steep for you – today’s the day to head over to 500px and sign up for a premium account.

500px’s move is pretty smart because it instantly does one thing – it goes straight after Flickr’s userbase, while maintaining the image it has had all along – of being a photo sharing site that’s a cut above the rest.

The premium upgrade will get users a custom domain, unlimited uploads, exclusive portfolio designs, google analytics and more. Most of the premium features are similar to Flickr’s with some added exceptions including the custom domain and the ability to customize your portfolio.

As the site continues to add more features, including native portfolios on iOS and Android and a gorgeous iPad app, it is becoming the more obvious choice for photographers who want to showcase their work beautifully.
