We’ve already taken a look at how the slick photo sharing site 500px has been luring away Flickr’s heavyweight photographers, and today it might manage to lure a few more people away from the ailing site.
For today only, 500px has announced that users can upgrade to a premium account for just $24.95 – the same price that Flickr charges for its Pro accounts. Using the promo code ‘boxingpixels’ will get you the reduced price, so if the $50 membership was too steep for you – today’s the day to head over to 500px and sign up for a premium account.
Today only @500px Awesome accounts for $24.95 only. Upgrade with code “boxingpixels” at https://500px.com/upgrade. Read me https://plus.google.com/100646334382638139241/posts/UYrNPa9iWhU

500px’s move is pretty smart because it instantly does one thing – it goes straight after Flickr’s userbase, while maintaining the image it has had all along – of being a photo sharing site that’s a cut above the rest.
The premium upgrade will get users a custom domain, unlimited uploads, exclusive portfolio designs, google analytics and more. Most of the premium features are similar to Flickr’s with some added exceptions including the custom domain and the ability to customize your portfolio.
As the site continues to add more features, including native portfolios on iOS and Android and a gorgeous iPad app, it is becoming the more obvious choice for photographers who want to showcase their work beautifully.
Do you think the move is enough to get more Flickr users to jump ship? Let us know in the comments.

OK now I cam very confused so correct me if I am wrong.
I thought 500px only wanted the best of the best of the best of your photos and didn't really want people to use their service to archive all their photo.
Flickr on the other hand wants every photo you have and has no problem with being used for archiving your photos.
So has 500px stance changed on those 2 topics or did I miss some info when 500px launched.??
I'd love to switch to 500px but I always thought they were targeting the pro photographer not the amateur photographer who uses Flickr to share with the world and I guess now I missed the discounted membership price too.

LikeAn ad written as an article, briliant. However, shame on TNW once again. Both you and TechCrunch, can only talk about 500px in the same sentence as Flickr. Where does 500px publicly state they are going after Flickr members? This kind of PR is becoming embarrassing for 500px.

Likefotoblur Hi there. Thank you for your comment. I have to acknowledge that we did match this price with Flickr's. We don't want to completely replace them (500px is a different product with its own purpose), but we do want to make it easy to switch.

LikeAndrey Tochilin Andrey. Thank you. Are you then publicly announcing you are attempting to recruit Flickr members away from that service to your own or not? Yes or No? Because the title '500px goes after Flickr users...' says 'Yes.' Please clarify for the audience. Thanks.

LikeI like the service overall, but their support is awful. I really don't care if it is second day of Christmas. They have charged me for upgrade to awesome account $50 instead of $25. I have contacted them through email, twitter dm and mentioned them on Twitter 7 hours ago to correct this. No answer so far.

LikeMladen Djordjevic Mladen, we received your email at 4am, Easter Time. I'm sorry that we don't have overnight customer support yet. I answered your messages about an hour ago. Please let me know in case of any questions. Happy Holidays! Andrey Tochilin, 500px.com

justinpetro dude, Flickr is fine. People are always looking for the newest shit - too big of a pain to move over for real Flickr users
JohnProlly It's 'fine,' you're right. It's like saying jonathanawesome has a nice personality. :) Convenient? Maybe. Innovative? No.

DhruvBhutani it does.. Read that.. Says there..
RaghuKannan the free 500px account doesn't. Anyways can't reupload 40+ gigs of pics on 500px so Flickr will do for now.
DhruvBhutani yeah.. Got on 500px when it launched.. Have never used it..
iPhil pois, isso no primeiro ano. Para renovações nunca volta a estar a $25. São serviços diferentes, mas continuo a gostar do flickr.
