Create your very own Rage Comic on the fly with this generator for iOS

Create your very own Rage Comic on the fly with this generator for iOS

I’ll admit it, while I’ve seen these “Rage Comics” all over the Internet in the past three years, I had no idea where they came from. I did a little sleuth work and thanks to KnowYourMeme and our resident Rage Comic expert at The Next Web, Alex Wilhelm, I was able to figure it all out.

Kind of.

Before I checked out the Rage Comic Generator for iOS, I had to know what I was getting into.

Here’s what KnowYourMeme says about Rage Comics:

Rage Comics are series of web comics with characters, sometimes referred to as “rage faces”, that are often created with simple drawing software such as MS Paint. The comics are typically used to tell stories about real life experiences, and end with a humorous punchline. It has become increasingly popular to create the comics using web applications often referred to as “rage comic generators” or “rage makers”.

Here is Alex’s description:

Rage Comics are born out of the frustrations of normal life, but find launch in that ideal synthesized through the comically low artistic skill of the average human. Therefore, as the medium found popularity, and the stock of accepted ‘faces’ that make up its foundational building blocks rose in number, the format blossomed. Today there are dozens of ‘memes’ that constitute its lexicon, allowing millions of fans a simple and functional way to articulate their daily woes. Or, in short, FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Got it? Good.

Here’s what a Rage Comic looks like if you’re not sure if you’ve ever heard of it:

You’ve probably seen one, but didn’t know it was a meme that has spread all over the internet like the plague. But it’s not necessarily a bad plague. Simple comics that explain real-life situations are kind of cool, and apparently has a massive following on Reddit, under the wonderful subreddit called “FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU”.

Make your own Rage Comic

Apps are great for creating things when you’re bored. Walking around the mall and witness some stupidity? Create a Rage Comic and share it with the world! The app will cost you $.99 cents, and if this meme is a way of life for you, then it’s money well spent. And if you end up not liking the app, then just create a comic about it.

When you fire this thing up, you can choose how many panels your comic will have, and set the height and width of it. You’re then given an empty canvas to drag over popular Rage Comic characters and text into your comic.

The user experience of this app is quite brilliant, allowing you to move your characters wherever you like, import photos from your camera roll, and flip images around to create the perfect Rage Comic. It’s so easy, even I could do it.

Here’s my Rage Comic about asking my fellow colleagues at The Next Web about Rage Comics:

Be nice, I’m just getting started. Now go make your own and link them up in the comments!
