When Foodspotting first launched, I have to admit, I was skeptical. I have clearly been proven wrong. The popularity of the concept of sharing images of your food is obvious as Foodspotting has already hit the 1 million download mark, and continues to grow.

Foodspotting is all about sharing snaps of your meals at restaurants, essentially letting your followers know where to go for a particular meal. In other words, the app is a great way to share very specific reviews.

Yumalico.us on the other hand is about taking photos of your own creations. There’s nothing to stop you from doing that on Foodspotting, but if you want to share your images with a social network that’s doing exactly the same thing, you’ll want to check out Yumalico.us.

Described as a ‘show and tell’ for people who love to cook, Yumalicio.us is the brainchild of LA-based Ja-Shin Tsang and and New York-based Tobin Schwaiger-Hastanan. They were sharing their kitchen creations on Facebook, but found that it wasn’t the ideal solution. The images were lost in all the other photos being uploaded to the social network, so they decided to create a site for like-minded people who want to show off their cooking skills.

To share the culinary creations you’re proud of, simply sign up for a free account and you can upload images, add descriptions about the dishes, as well as tags. If you want, there’s no reason why you can’t give other users a few tips on how to make the dishes themselves.

Since Yumalicio.us is a social network, you can follow other users, leave them comments, and add their image to your favourites. You can browse the site by viewing the latest uploads, images shared by people you follow, your favourites, or your own snaps.

Tsang’s own personal account shows you just how creative you can get with your images, creating before and after images of the dish.

I have to admit, I’m not much of a cook, but Yumalicio.us certainly makes me want to head right into the kitchen and attempt an interesting dish of my own.

If we had just one request, a mobile app would definitely make a huge difference in the Yumalicio.us experience. Having to take the photo and upload it to your computer before getting it on the site may put some people off, but we’re guessing the true foodies out there won’t mind the extra step.
