Boxee plans iPad app that will stream to other devices

Boxee, has announced it’s planning on releasing its own iPad app to offer streaming between devices running its software.

Boxee enables users to watch movies and tv shows from the internet on TV through their Boxee set top box. And, it also offers a cool UI to consume media on Mac/PC/Linux.

We first heard that Boxee would be integrating Apple’s Airplay technology. However, Boxee’s VP of Marketing Andrew Kippen, speaking to Pocket Lint, has debunked that idea saying “kinda like AirPlay, but not quite”. With Boxee’s new technology users will be able to throw video from their iPads to their Mac, PC or Linux computers.

As of today, we know the app will be compatible with the first generation of iPad and we’ve been told that Boxee is about to update its set top box to version 1.1.

This AirPlay-type technology is seriously heating up. It was also reported in the last 24 hours that AirPlay may be a feature coming to non-Apple TVs. If it’s true, Apple may be granting electronic manufacturers a license to utilize AirPlay, according to Bloomberg.
