Wanderfly, an app for the wanderlust signs on new partners

Wanderfly, an app for the wanderlust signs on new partners

Traveling is one of life’s greatest pleasures. The exploration process allows us to learn about ourselves and the rest of the world at once. But when you know you want to get away, how do you decide where to go?

Wanderfly is the digital version of spinning a globe and throwing out your finger to pick your next destination. The site acts like a Pandora of a travel, analyzing a destination’s DNA and mapping it to what user’s want.

Leave the “I Want To Explore” box as “Anywhere” or limit your search to a region such as “Asia” or “South America.” It’s similar to Kayak’s Explore feature, but with more useful information like recommended activities, fast check out and a simple, beautiful layout. With Wanderfly, users pick a price range, estimated dates and themes such as beach, party, luxury, culture, food, shopping, etc.

Today, just three months after launch, Wanderfly unveiled a revamped website, which includes a faster, more targeted search experience including new trip themes to help families planning vacations as well as adventurists and singles looking for the perfect trip. They also released a widget for 3rd-party sites and introduced user-generated content from Business Traveler magazine. Other existing content providers include Not For Tourists, Lonely Planet, Yelp and NileGuide.

The New York City startup boasts half a million trips viewed from users in nearly 200 countries and has just secured $1 million in venture funding and epic partnerships with Jetsetter, Hotels.com and Quintessentially.

Hotels.com will power the site’s hotel search and Jetsetter will offer Wanderfly users access to its hand-selected, verified vacations through its 24/7 collection and flash sales. Quintessentially’s concierge service will offer travelers access to tickets and reservations in over 50 Wanderfly destinations, from New York to Abu Dhabi. Through Wanderfly, users can enjoy Quintessentially services for as little as $50 a day for the length of their trip without paying for an annual membership, normally starting at $1,500.

Additionally, the site offers a Facebook connect so users can see if their friends live in any of the destinations that Wanderfly recommends. The site also gives users the ability to share a trip on Facebook with the talk bubble icon on the upper blue bar.

Wanderfly hopes to get its new widget on third-party sites, such as travel blogs, media outlets and online travel guides. The widget can be downloaded via Wanderfly’s “My Settings” page. A mobile application is in the works.

So guess where I’ll be one week from today… you don’t see any outlets or WiFi there do you? :)
