Pixable’s smart Facebook photo gallery hits 100,000 users in 10 days

Pixable’s smart Facebook photo gallery hits 100,000 users in 10 days

Facebook’s API allows developers to present our friends’ photos in all sorts of new ways, and one of the best we’ve found is Pixable‘s Photofeed app.

This app runs within Facebook and presents photos in a whole new way. It uses an algorithm based on the number of likes and comments each photos has, that Pixable calls ‘WonderRank’, to determine the most popular photos of the day, week and month, meaning that it should highlight the best photos you might have missed. The app also has feeds for the best photos from previous years as well as “Photos of Guys”, “Photos of Girls”, “Family Updates” and more.

It’s all presented with a slick interface that also lets you explore your photos by the friend that posted them in a more traditional way, making this a useful tool whenever you want to see what your friends and family have been up to.

It’s taken off too, the New York-based team (whose Pocketpix app we’ve previously covered) tells me that in the ten days since the app launched, it’s attracted 100,000 users and processed over 9 million photos. The app has just been updated to provide unlimited photo streams too, meaning that (when enough photos are available) you’ll be able to keep clicking through where previously there was a 50 photo limit. This is occasionally interrupted by an option to promote the app to your friends, but at least it’s done in a useful way – by letting you share a stat that you might find interesting, such as your top 3 commenters.
