Viadeo, the France-based social network for business, has announced the launch of five apps built on Google’s Open Social platform.
The apps see Viadeo integrating Microsoft Powerpoint (via the Google Presentation app), Twitter, YouTube and Poll Daddy along with a new document sharing feature.
Although it claims to have more than 25 million users worldwide, Viadeo is a long way behind market leader LinkedIn. That said, with a recent distinct uptick in traffic (according to Compete.com) it’s growing fast.
LinkedIn has its own selection of Open Social apps that offer, among other things, Twitter, filesharing, Google Presentation and poll support. Viadeo’s YouTube support will be useful for some, although in the end most businesses will go where their target market is. If they want to mingle with users on one social network, a couple of Open Social apps are unlikely to sway them to change.
Viadeo plans to launch additional apps throughout this year. Here are details of the first five apps to launch. When we checked, all but the YouTube app was ready to be installed on users profiles. We assume this will be added today.
Ayos Ishare: Share any type of document up to 100 MB! Upload files and make them available for download straight from your profile.
Google Presentation: Import, create and share PowerPoint documents through your profile. Share your company presentation, creative portfolio, business proposals, press reviews and more.
Poll Daddy: In just a few clicks, you can create surveys for your profile page. Find out what your network’s thinking!
Twitter: Do you have a Twitter account? Now you can automatically display your tweets on your Viadeo profile.
YouTube: Import, create and share videos through your profile.
