Until today, Acrobat.com featured a number of web applications from Adobe that helped users to create, store and share documents, presentations and PDF files on-line.
The suite of services were intended to benefit business users and enhance business collaboration online.
Acrobat.com features Buzzword, a competitor to Google Docs. ConnectNow, a tool for running virtual meetings, sharing desktops, and presenting PowerPoints virtually. Create PDF/Share, a tool to create and share PDF files. Presentations, a tool for collaboratively building presentations. Finally, Spreadsheets: allowing multiple users to create a fully-functional spreadsheet or excel document.
Today, there’s a new addition to the team, Workspaces.

Workspaces, as you would expect, tie many of the other services together. With this new tool, Adobe says you can easily share and collaborate on a set of documents with individuals or teams. You can share files and work towards getting projects completed with others outside of your organization, especially when compared to dealing with multiple e-mail threads with different file attachments.
“Instead of sharing documents one-by-one, you can simply create a Shared Workspace to which each of your collaborators will be granted access. When you add a file to the Workspace, it is automatically made available to anyone that you have invited to be a part of that Workspace.”
All sounds pretty elementary when compared to the mass of project management tools out there, but this is Adobe we’re talking about…they wouldn’t release a sub-par app on us would they?
We’re off to dig deep into this for ourselves but what I can tell you right of the bat is that it’s well designed, easy to set up, quick to share workspaces and its well integrated with the other services in the suite. That said, as with most things Adobe, it’s in flash and for that reason I don’t like it, irrespective of how slick its design is.
Judge for yourself, but if you’re interested in learning a little more before trying it out yourself, you can find detailed walkthrough of its features here or browse its features here.
Final point, pricing. For Adobe it’s reasonable: $14.99/month (or $149/year) OR $20/month (or $390/year) depending on whether you plan to use more than 20 workspaces.

Hi Zee,
I am Mangesh Bhandarkar from Acrobat.com team here at Adobe. I am the Product Manager for Acrobat.com Workspaces. First off thank you very much for your blog post covering the launch of Acrobat.com Workspaces. We are very excited about the release and appreciate your detailed coverage. We did want to provide one comment to prevent users from getting confused about workspaces and the functionality provided. Acrobat.com Workspaces does not include a project management tool, however workspaces are squarely targeted at addressing the problems of documents collaboration when working on projects. These projects could be internal team-based projects or those involving one or more external parties. We believe that Acrobat.com Workspaces and its collaborative capabilities make it very easy to keep everyone on the same page when working on projects.
If you have any additional questions please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
Thanks
Mangesh

Sounds like this is a rival to Microsoft Sharepoint. I don't see any mention in the article of features like project calendars to share important project dates, logs, etc. but I'm interested in learning more. Thanks for posting!

This is interesting news. I will definitely check it out.
Well, in all fairness, Adobe was probably the only big software company who didn't jump into the project management software bandwagon. Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and the have all realized that they were behind on this and started correcting the situation at least a year ago, although nothing tangible really came out of their efforts.
Adobe on the other hand seems to have something tangible, which is actually good. The interface is nice, but it is a bit pricey. But I think Adobe's reputation is going to really help in this competitive market where the big players are much smaller companies.
A short article on the ideal pm tool can be found http://www.pmhut.com/what-would-an-ideal-project-management-tool-look-like' rel=”nofollow”>here.

Hi,Collaborative software is a concept that greatly overlaps with computer supported cooperative work (CSCW). Some authors argue they are equivalent.Mavenlink is the first company to focus exclusively on improving the interactions between businesses and their consultants. The ability to invite other colleagues to a workspace gives you the option to i) collaborate with other team members to get buy in or feedback, ii) provide immediate visibility to management, peers or direct reports as to progress or updates on a particular project, iii) get help completing your obligations, if any, related to the project deliverables.

Acrobat.com once called itself a “SharePoint alternative”, and I really thought they were going to go in that direction. But they certainly haven’t extended their strategy in that direction.
