MacBook Pro users experience longer battery life after macOS update

MacBook Pro users experience longer battery life after macOS update

Last week, Apple faced a heated backlash from numerous customers crying out their brand new Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro laptops last nowhere near the 10 hours the company promises on its website.

In an effort to fend off complaints, yesterday the Big A issued a macOS update that eliminated the ‘time remaining’ indicator that shows up once you click the battery icon in the status bar, but it seems these weren’t the only changes the company made.

According to MacRumors, numerous users are reporting the latest reiteration of macOS Sierra (10.12.2) brings significant improvements to battery life, restoring the promised 10 hours of uptime.

Here’s what MacRumors member lobo1978 said:

Ok it is official. macOS Sierra 10.12.2 fixed my battery. I am up back to 9-10 hours of regular use. Before updating, idle power consumption was not going lower than 6 watts. On macOS Sierra 10.12.2, it is now <4 watts at 60% brightness with the ambient light sensor on.

Despite at least a dozen similar reports, the publication notes that Apple hasn’t confirmed making any battery life optimizations in the latest update. The changelog documents several stability improvements and graphics-related fixes, but makes no mention of any modifications specifically focused on battery life.

It’s possible the iPhone-maker chose not to disclose any such tweaks in the changelog as to avoid confirming the issue has affected a larger group of users.

Following the release of the macOS update yesterday, Apple told The Loop it stands behind its initial promise of 10 hours of battery life.
