Much like last year, Apple made two versions of its iPhone. In last year’s 6s, Apple chose to utilize two separate processors — one marginally better than the other. In this year’s iPhone 7, Apple again chose different components, this time for the modem.
One iPhone 7 has a Qualcomm modem, while the other uses hardware from Intel. Unlike last year, the improvement for the better of the two wasn’t exactly marginal. According to a report from Cellular Insights, the Qualcomm modem outperformed Intel by 30 percent. The different modems are available in both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — meaning, four unique phones, essentially.
“The most awesome stage”
Last year, Facebook's VP of Design thought the TNW Conference main stage was the best she'd ever been on.
So how do you know if you have the slower iPhone? Well, the faster version modem standard with all Verizon, Sprint, or SIM-free models. Those sold by T-Mobile, AT&T, and Telstra feature the slower Intel modem.
For phone’s purchased overseas, or from another carrier, the quickest way to check is to turn your phone over and look at the small print. The Intel modem is Model A1778 and Model A1784 — aside from either of those, you’re good to go.
