Apple Pay is finally available for iOS 9.1 users in Canada today, but there’s a catch – it only supports American Express at launch.
Even if you have an AmEx card – it will need to be one that was issued directly from the credit card company as bank-issued cards aren’t supported.
Another conference. “Great.”
This one’s different, trust us. Our new event for New York is focused on quality, not quantity.
Apple Pay has been available in the US since October 2014 and in the UK since July, so Canada is now the third country with support for the contactless payment method.
So while it’s a step in the right direction for the home of Apple’s neighbors, it’s still quite restricted. I’d expect Apple to expand on the list of participating banks and credit card providers in the coming days and weeks, as it has done with other regions in the past.
Apple confirmed to the Financial Post that it will also be launching the service in Australia later this week.
