Apple’s Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, announced brand new features for Apple’s CarPlay as part of the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote.
CarPlay will support apps from car manufacturers that allow you to control certain car features and will operate wirelessly.
No cars currently support wireless mode as yet, but CarPlay will work wirelessly in future cars — it requires a USB connection right now via a Lightning cable for iPhone control. In future cars, iOS users will be able to connect in the car wirelessly.

CarPlay is Apple’s way of making it safe to use your iPhone in the car, featuring Siri voice control designed for driving situations. It works with your car’s controls — knobs, buttons, or touchscreen.
