iMessage is down for some users [Update: It’s back]

Twitter is buzzing with news that iMessage is down for some users. The outage seems unrelated to Apple’s update to iOS 8 today.

I currently can not send an iMessage message via OS X and on the ¡Phone, it reverts to text messaging to send messages that have failed to send. Neither of our test iPhones that are unable to use iMessage have updated to iOS 8.1.1.

Apple’s support page for online services currently notes that iMessage is working.

Update 11:45am PT: Apple’s support page for services notes an iMessage outage for some users from 9:30am PT until 11:30 am PT. While  reports that the issue is over, a quick check on Twitter shows users still having difficulty with the service.

Update: 3:00 pm PT: It looks like iMessages has returned to normal for a majority of users.
