Originally reported by Dutch language site, iCulture, the startup’s talent and resources could be rolled into Apple’s iBook Author tool. The tool currently helps users create digital books for Apple’s iBook ebook storefront. With Prss, the tool could be used to create digital magazines for the Newsstand app.
Apple confirmed the acquisition with the usual statement reserved for acquisitions:
Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.
Above you see the founders of Prss, Jochem Wijnands and Michel Elings, launching their company at TNW Conference USA , while the host, and CEO of TNW, is doing a little (Apple) dance.
Prior to Prss, Wijnands and Elings ran an iPad-based travel magazine called TRVL. The Next Web first wrote about TRVL in 2010. Prss was built in a response to failings the startup percieved in exisiting iPad magazine creation software.
