Apple’s decision to give its customers U2’s new album for free is confusing a lot of people

Apple’s partnership with U2 is having an immediate effect, although perhaps not as might be hoped, after customers began noticing that the band’s latest album had been uploaded to their accounts automatically. Some of the younger Apple folks don’t even appear to know who the Irish band is — sigh.

The two heavyweights believe that their coming together can “transform the way music is listened to and viewed” — but the initial response seems to be confusion, judging on the reactions of many who have tweeted, and a post over at TechCrunch too.

Other people are being more playful, including TNW’s own Owen Willams:

Not to worry. If you’re not into the band and/or its latest offering, the album will disappear within a month. I’m sure there’s a lame Snapchat joke in there somewhere…
