Candy Crush tops iPhone download chart for 2013, Duolingo and Disney Animated selected as top apps

Candy Crush tops iPhone download chart for 2013, Duolingo and Disney Animated selected as top apps

Apple has revealed its top apps for 2013, which sees cult game Candy Crush Saga — from developer King.com — sitting pretty on top of the pile as the most downloaded iPhone app in the US, USA Today reports.

The best of 2013 page (which is not available in all countries worldwide) details the top free and paid apps for the iPhone and iPad.

Apple also singled out two apps as its ‘picks’ of the year. In the free-to-download category it selected language learning app Duolingo, while Disney Animated, a $9.99 app that covers the famous animator’s library of content, scooped the accolade for paid apps.

Interestingly, Twitter-owned Vine notched more downloads than rival Instagram, but Vine launched in January 2013 so had the advantage of being a fresh arrival this year. Instagram’s 150 million monthly userbase makes it considerably larger than Vine — and also Snapchat which was downloaded more times this year too.
