iPhone trade-in program is now available in Apple retail stores across the UK

Apple’s Reuse and Recycling Programme is now available in-store across the UK, giving customers the option to trade in their existing iPhone and receive a discount on a new handset.

The scheme has been offered on the Web for some time, giving users a quote based on the model and condition of their iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC. A pre-paid shopping label was then sent out and the credit, if applicable, was debited to the user’s chosen bank account.

The expansion for brick and mortar stores, spotted by Pocket Lint, differs from this system by giving users in-store credit exclusively. It follows a similar roll-out in the Unites States back in August and only applies to the iPhone.

An Apple spokesperson told TNW:

“iPhones hold great value. So, Apple Retail Stores in the UK are launching a new program to assist customers who wish to bring in their previous-generation iPhone for reuse or recycling. In addition to helping support the environment, customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone.”

The trade-in price will vary for older handsets depending on the condition of the display and physical buttons, as well as any engravings or liquid damage affecting the device.

Credit will then be offered as a gift card, which the buyer has to spend at that moment against a new iPhone. It cannot be used to discount any other products available in-store.
