Apple appeal hearing on permanent injunction against Samsung set for August 9

Apple appeal hearing on permanent injunction against Samsung set for August 9

Apple and Samsung are set for another legal tussle on August 9 after a judge scheduled a hearing date for Apple’s appeal over a denial of a permanent injunction against its rival, FOSS Patents reports.

After initially winning damages of $1.05 billion last summer, Apple lost out in its bid for a sales ban on Samsung devices last December. Judge Lucy Koh also lowered the damages amount by about $450 million in March.

The August 9 hearing, which will take place before a panel of judges, could result in longer court proceedings if the judges decide to reopen arguments relating to the injunction.

Meanwhile, Apple is fighting an upcoming US International Trade Commission iPhone and iPad ban from Samsung that is set to take effect on August 5, just days before Apple’s own appeal hearing.
