Apple has today posted a public notice to developers that its Volume Purchasing Program is available in 9 new countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The program, which allows developers to offer their apps to educational institutions at a discount when they purchase in bulk, was previously only available in the US. The volume program is available to businesses as well, and it allows them to develop apps that they can distribute to their entire workforce directly or buy retail-priced apps en masse. The VPP normally applies to books as well, as stated here and membership includes honoring of tax exemption.

The Volume Purchase Program allows developers to offer packages of apps specific to those organizations and membership by schools and other institutions allows them to fill out Apple devices with bulk-priced apps. The expansion of the program should allow for educational organizations to fit more apps into their budgets as the usage of iPads and Macs grows in the classroom. Apple recently updated its Configurator app with better support for the VPP program.
