Apple updates Podcasts app to fix performance, subscription issues and more

Apple has released an updated version of its Podcasts app which addresses some of the performance and usability issues people have noticed with the app. Among the issues addressed are the fact that the library didn’t show the number of unplayed episodes of a particular podcast, and that the Subscribe button simply didn’t work.

This is the list of improvements given by Apple:

  • Significant improvements to performance and stability
  • Podcasts in your library now show the number of unplayed episodes
  • Top Stations now show the podcast title if artwork is missing
  • Playback speed is now remembered when playing the next episode
  • Fix for a problem where the Subscribe button is inactive
  • Resolution of an issue where Top Stations artwork may not appear
When the app was initially released, we mentioned that we liked the general look and feel, but it was evident that there was work yet to be done to get it working the way it should. It appears that Apple thought so as well, as these latest fixes feel very much like things that should have been done before the app was released in the first place. Buttons not working is just silly town.
