If an email sent to developers is any indication, Apple will be adding a new Food & drink category to the App Store. According to Macstories, some developers who make apps that would fit that culinary mold have received emails about opting in to the new category.
Federico Viticci on the new category:
According to Apple, the new category will include “apps that help users cook and bake, mix drinks, manage recipes, find new restaurants and bars, and learn what their friends like to eat and drink”. Food & Drink won’t include diet, grocery shopping, coupon clipping, or food-related game apps.
We’ve been informed that Apple is indeed in the process of revamping its iTunes application and its various software and media stores. The new iterations are said to include more iCloud features and, hopefully, an improved set of community features for developers and app downloaders.
The new category is said to be added “in the next few weeks”, with a deadline set for developers to opt out of their apps appearing in it set for July 8th.
