Report: Apple’s iPhone 5 media event to be held on October 4

Apple is expected to announce its next media event will be held on October 4, with the company’s new CEO Tim Cook poised to unveil Apple’s next-generation iPhone(s) and associated platforms and services, AllThingsD reports.

Whilst Apple has yet to issue invites for its next major unveiling, AllThingsD cites “sources close to the situation”, noting that the company has selected the date to showcase the iPhone 5. Apple is also expected to announce that its new smartphone will be available “within a few weeks” after the announcement.

An October launch has been rumoured for a number of months, with the Wall Street Journal outlet scuppering rumours that Apple would choose to launch its new iPhone at the end of September, despite reports that AT&T had blocked employee holiday requests scheduled over the last two weeks of the month.

The event will likely see Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook take to the stage to deliver his first Apple keynote since Steve Jobs announced his resignation from the position. Sources close to Apple’s suppliers suggest that the new iPhone will feature the company’s latest A5 processor, a new teardrop design and will also sport an 8MP camera.

According to this rumour, we have less than two weeks to wait – we expect Apple to be forthcoming with its event invites soon.
