iPhone app lets users snap a picture of car’s license for prices and specs

iPhone app lets users snap a picture of car’s license for prices and specs

There’s a new iOS app that offers a quick way to receive price comparisons by simply snapping a photo of the car’s registration plate –something that would seriously come in handy if you’re shopping for new wheels.

The app created by the folks at Bilpriser.se, a price comparison site for car shopping in Sweden, enables users to get access to the latest listings, estimated values, specs, the average cost of insurance rates and the car’s recent transaction history. After snapping a pic of a license, the app will tap into the government registration database to locate the car’s make and model.  Within the app there’s over 9,000 models with over 80,000 different versions and it’s available on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

When you see a hot-looking car, the ability to snap a picture for details, makes it super easy to obtain the specs and price. It’s also handy for those of us who know absolutely nothing about cars. With this app, Bilpriser.se has eliminated the need to research vehicles yourself. It additionally lets users save multiple cars to a “favourites” folder.

Unfortunately, this app is only available for users in Sweden but we hope to see similar apps pop up in the app store soon. It’s definitely an app anyone would want while shopping around for a new car. Please let us know if you’ve come across an app that uses the same technology for finding cars.
