Apple fans in prep for iOS 4.2 iTunes 10.1 has just dropped. I’m downloading and installing now (no reboot needed)…
As iTunes is downloading and installing on my machine, and I hope by now that you’ve gone to your Apple menu and checked so you can install the update.
Unlike previous iTunes updates, this update info is few on words but in this case less is more:
- Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new AppleTV.
- Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2
- Provides a number of important stability and performance improvements.
This update is essential for iOS 4.2 which was rumored to be coming out today, but looks like it could be pushed off until next week because of some late-breaking iPad WiFi problems. The other interesting bit that we are looking into is when I first launched iTunes I got a very interesting prompt come up:
Which I can only assume has to do with AirPlay. Apple’s iTunes-AirPlay docs don’t make mention of the dialog, but it is essential for AirPlay and iTunes to work together.
After launching iTunes for the first time (I accepted the new iTunes license agreement on install), honestly nothing looks different than it did yesterday. This makes iTunes 10.1 a mostly “under the hood” update. Clearly a rather important “under the hood” update though.
We’ll keep our ears to the ground for any more updates, problems, or interesting tidbits and post them here.
