We must preface this story by first stating that this is a rumor, but oh what a joy if it turns out to be a reality.

A report from Mission Repair has surfaced which shows an iPad enclosure (pictured at right) featuring both portrait and landscape dock connectors.

We have seen previous patents showing an iPad with two dock connectors, but pictures of the device in the flesh have not presented themselves to this point.

According to Mission Repair:

“Ask and you shall receive: Here’s a shot of an iPad back case showing the dock connectors both on the bottom of the iPad (as we’re used to) and on the side of the iPad so you can dock it in landscape mode. Just as we hoped.”

The picture could be no more than something to get all Apple fans, myself included, excited about the next version of the iPad, which it has done.  Two docking options would make for a grand edition to the next iPad, more so for me than the addition of a camera would.

What about you?  Are dual docks something you hope are on the next version of the iPad?  What feature(s) would you most like to see Apple add to the iPad?

Update: Engadget reports that the photos from Mission Repair are not indicative of the design of the next generation iPad:

“what the image actually shows is a rejected concept from the currentgeneration iPad. The story goes that originally there had been plans to feature two dock connections, but close to the last minute a design decision was made to kill the landscape port.”

Have we been had?  Your thoughts?
