Safari Extensions Gallery will be coming soon.

Safari Extensions Gallery will be coming soon.

According to a post over at MacRumors, Apple has recently sent out an email to registered developers soliciting extensions for Safari 5. Why, you might ask? Well, it appears that a Safari Extensions Gallery will be forthcoming.

Here’s a copy/paste of the email, again thanks to MacRumors:

We’ll soon be launching the Safari Extensions Gallery, a new destination that provides you with an opportunity to increase the visibility of your Safari extension beyond your website.

The Safari Extensions Gallery will feature selected extensions that offer an innovative user experience. And a one-click installation process will allow users to seamlessly install extensions from a developer’s website without ever having to leave the Gallery.

Have your extension considered for the Safari Extensions Gallery. Submit your extension download URL and supporting metadata today.

We first saw Safari 5 back during the WWDC, and since then the browser has picked up a pretty considerable amount of attention, if not a large part of the market share.  Having a localized gallery for extensions might be exactly what Apple needs to give Chrome a run for its money.

Given the recent changes to Safari, it looks like Apple is dead set on making a bigger dent into the browser share market.  From what we’ve seen and heard, the newest version of Safari is finally a top class browser.
