Hang On To Your Current iPhone, Unlock For iPhone OS 3.1.3 Coming Soon

Hang On To Your Current iPhone, Unlock For iPhone OS 3.1.3 Coming Soon

The iPhone jailbreaking cycle is fun if not frustrating at times, especially when it means you can’t update your handset until the newest exploit is released. Apple forums are filled with users who have decided to upgrade their iPhone to the 3.1.3 firmware, upgrading the handset baseband in the process.

It’s only when you Google the unlocking process for iPhone OS 3.1.3 on the 05.12.01 baseband that you realise there isn’t an exploit available, you are locked to one specific carrier. Some people are left without a usable iPhone.

We’re happy to report that there is light at the end of the tunnel, courtesy of a Twitter conversation between iPhone jailbreaker @musclenerd and a frustrated iPhone 3GS owner:

We are expecting an unlock for 2G, 3G and 3GS models to be released in the second week of June coinciding with Apple’s release of iPhone OS 4.0. Releasing the exploit before then could give Apple time to patch the exploit before the new firmware is published.

We’ll update you as soon as it’s released.
