So this is the story of how the iPhone 4G got leaked?

So this is the story of how the iPhone 4G got leaked?

And now, we know the rest of the story.  Well, maybe.

Gizmodo is telling us that it goes like this:

Guy walks into a bar, guy has a few beers.  Toward the end of the night, guy walks out of the bar forgetting his phone.  Not too uncommon of a story.  But if your name is Gray Powell, and it was the iPhone 4G that you left behind, it might be the worst story you’ll ever have to tell.

The phone was reportedly left behind, picked up by a random stranger.  Random stranger asks around, nobody claims the phone, so random stranger takes it home.  He plays with it for a bit, but nothing really happens.  In fact, he can’t even take pictures.  The camera crashes the phone.

So he decides to leave it for the night, but he wakes up and starts to play with the device again.  He notes that it doesn’t feel quite right, so he toys with the outer shell and eventually manages to open it.

When he does, he notices that this device isn’t an iPhone 3GS at all.  In fact, it has a lot of differences.  So random formerly-drunk guy…you’ll have to pardon the lack of details here, there just aren’t many…puts the phone into the hands of Gizmodo.  Gizmodo does the story, then tries to get in touch with Gray to return the phone to him.

Needless to say, Apple is likely very unhappy with Gray at the moment.  Time will tell how this story unfolds, but that’s what we know so far.  Or, at least, that’s the story that is being told.
