Apple this morning officially announced their invitation-only special event to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco on January 27, not 26 as many of us expected.
“Come see our latest creation,” the invitation reads.
The artwork doesn’t appear to give away a thing. Damn you Apple.
We’ve actually been told by a source that the device is going to be a tablet, but far smaller than expected. Merely 5 inches in screen size, compared to 3.5 inches for the current iPhone. Again another rumour, although we are inclined to trust this one as we’ve heard it first hand. Irrespective, pencil the events into your calendar guys.

Typo: been told be > been told by
5″? Come on, that’s the biggest red herring I’ve heard about this launch to date. If this device is going to do one thing, it’ll be to take on the ebook readers, and 5″ is of no use to anyone.
there are loads of 5″ ereaders.
But I would be disappointed if this were ‘just’ a 5″ ereader.
Exactly! This is Apple. Apple.
I’ve been told by a reliable source that it will be see through multitouch display. And it has another feature wich I can’t tell you right now.
How big is the invitation? That could probably be the size of the device.
5-inch sounds good to me. I'm quite happy to read books on an ipod, though i'd be happier with a slightly larger screen, on a device I can fit in a jacket pocket. I've been holding off on buying an iphone to see what happens: A 5-inch screen with all the capabilities of the iphone, and maybe more (space for sure) priced under $500 would be an immediate purchase for me. Personally, even 7-inch would be to large.
