Bing to Integrate Facebook Updates within 2 Months and Facebook’s not earning a penny from it. Is Twitter?

google-yahoo-bing-twitterMicrosoft’s Bing will be integrating public Facebook status updates within the next two months and won’t be paying Facebook for the data.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg said: “We should have our public updates integrated into a Bing beta within a couple of months. Unlike Twitter’s data stream, which is already totally public, we have to be very careful about making sure the correct data is streamed.”

You needn’t be too concerned about privacy as status updates are only integrated from those who have specifically stated they are happy to have their updates made public. With 45 million status updates per day, it’s a wonder how many are actually public.

Significantly, Ms Sandberg told the audience at the Web 2.0 conference that they were not paying Facebook for access to the status updates. Therefore, one must wonder whether Twitter is being paid by Microsoft and Google for unrestricted access to their catalog of updates.

Marissa Meyer, Google’s vice president of search products and user experience, refused to disclose the financial terms of the partnerships, but should Twitter not be paid then we’re frankly back to square one in regards to where Twitter is finding its $4 million in revenue.
