Facebook Lite goes live in the US. And another BITE out of Twitter pie.

zliteNot hours after Facebook announces @mentions/tagging of status updates, Facebook lite goes live.

Yes, the Facebook lite service that became public knowledge a couple of months of back was supposedly intended for international users with slower connections. However a peak at the new Facebook lite and how its been introduced shows a complete design revamp and an ideal counter-offer for what Twitter has to offer.

Sadly, the site is currently available only to US users, where internet connections are particularly slow(?).</sarcasm> Update: Now India too.

Simply put, this is a slimmer, slender and faster version of Facebook.com. With less of the invites and mess, but more of the content.
