Here is a nice trick I picked up from the people at Cultofmac that I want to share with you. I think we were all delighted with the new Quicktime functions in Mac OS X Snow Leopard when we first found out about them.
Built in Screencasting? Cool!
Unfortunately the feature didn’t have a lot of customization options that other screencast products do. Like zooming in and showing only one portion of the screen?
It turns out that it is actually very simple to do that with Quicktime by enabling an option in the ‘Universal Access’ settings. On the right is a visual clue as to where to find it. Just follow those arrows.
Go to that setting and enable ‘Zoom’. Now you can Zoom in at any portion of the screen by pressing CTRL on your keyboard while dragging to fingers over your trackpad or by scrolling up and down with that little ball on top of your mouse.
I made a small demo, using a screencast, to show you how it works and where you can find it:

Pahaha… nice touch with the uhh.. slip-up…? ;)
What slip-up?
Hahahaha! Epic slip-up!!
How long before Vimeo remove the video because of nudity? :P
A nice NSFW comment would be appreciated. :)
Is the gratuitous porn REALLY necessary?
huh? couldn’t you allready zoom in and out with ctrl+scroll? regardless of OSX
@sjv: no
@sjv: sure not, but it was REALLY funny!
to SJV nudity isnt pornographic until you find it arousing, in response to your comment.
Stop being such a pervert :P
I am doing this since I bought my MacBook Pro with just Leopard 10.5.x. I think you did not know of it till Snow Leopard but this zoom feature is really old.
New? ‘Screen recording’ does just what is says; record your screen. Zoom is pre-Snow Leopard, so it’s quite obvious that it works just as expected.
@Mausay & @Yavor Ivanov: yes Zoom in has been around for a while. Combining it with Screencasting is new.
thenextweb posts a video and doesn’t mention the naked chick in the video? (1:08) hahaha srsly? lol
Nice one ! :)
In hindsight everything is obvious.
Sigh. Zooming was available. Screen recording wasn’t.
Well, they all did know about it. I didn't and I appreciated your post a lot, the little “oops” was pretty funny too :)
thanks! :D
Im sorry, but this option was available since OS Leopard – without activating any zoom feature…
