This is the Complete List of Top Twitter Services by Unique Monthly visitors based on Compete numbers.
In February Leena Rao at Techcrunch posted “The Top 21 Twitter Applications (According to Compete)” with a list that was later, after much debate, expanded to show 22 services. It was a nice effort to show the growing popularity of third party Twitter services.
As you might know we started TwitterCounter and were added to the list (after they forgot us first) and made it to the 4th spot in the list. Since then we have been keeping a close eye on the traffic stats of the other services on the list.
Today we are publishing a Google Doc which will be easy to expand with new services. If you see one we missed, and which has more unique visitors than number 24, please let us know (in the comments please) so we can add it.
A few notable stats:
- TweetMeme grew a whopping 57,000% in the past 5 months and went from 6,000 to 3,600,000 unique visitors a month. this places them at #1 in our top 24.
- Tweetvisor seems to have lost the most ground as it went from 31,000 to less than 9,000 unique visitors. Somewhere along the line they lost 73% of their audience.
- MobyPicture did VERY well growing 660% from 12,000 to 95,000 unique monthly visitors.

Just added CoTweet to the list. It comes in at number 14 and is still in closed beta! Not bad at all…
Yeah that must be it. TwitterCounter has more pageviews than Compete shows too. But hey, you have to start somewhere… :-)
Very good! Added it right away. Hits the list at number 9. What else is missing?
Thanks for the kudos!
Our analytics tell us a much bigger growth though, but Compete is probably focussing on US usage…

What about http://twitscoop.com
Quick note: I’m not adding Seesmic, Flickr or Posterous to the list although they all have some form of Twitter integration. The list is for companies who main product is the Twitter service they are offering.
TweetMeme is my most often visited twitter service site, we can predict more and more different kind of twitter services are coming while Twitter is growing very fast right now.
Hey, http://img.ly is kina new but cool Image Service for Twitter where you can tag Twitter Users on the photos..
Thanks for clarifying! I also see that you have been growing steadily since March this year. Keep it up and keep us informed.
Thanks for the article. Since you’ve mentioned Tweetvisor in a special note, I’d like to shortly explain the temporary traffic drop. The months following January start up we switched various servers, going from an initial shared hosting (yes, I know…) to different dedicated servers. We apologize for all the trouble Tweetvisor had caused in those first months of the year, we know we temporarily lost some fans, but we also know we do have many users that had patience and stick with the product and still use it despite of all those issues that passed.
Thanks,
Tweetvisor’s Founder
What I’m missing is Ping.fm (the big brother of Hellotxt), FutureTweets, Qwitter, Flirt140, TweetStats.com, Strawpoll, twitsay, Twellow, justtweetit, Tweetie, Destroy Twitter, Twist(.flaptor.com), happn.in, whatthetrend, twitdom, TwitterKeys (you mist your own little gem?) and the list goes on ;p
This post is getting close to ‘Twitter Applications: The Definitive Collection’, keep up the good work Boris!
This is a nice list, nice format….as you are updating it constantly, I see a great following for you.
Good job!!
Cool, but not big enough to add to the list yet. Let us know when Compete has stats for you!
Seesmic Desktop doesn’t have it own domain so we can’t track it individually.
I developed a new one. Tag clouds generated from tweets in different languages. Started 4 weeks ago.

nice job Mathijs with Mobypicture
I see Twhirl dropping presumably due to Seesmic Desktop, which has garnered tons of favorable ink on Mashable, etc. – is it my aging eyes or is that MIA from the list? After much AIR trepidation, I installed 0.3 this afternoon – and love it!
Will keep an eye on it but right now there isn’t enough data in Compete to add it to the list:

Don’t forget dailyrt.com! We’re growing well now that we’ve got the kinks worked out.
MrTweet and WeFollow now also on the list…
