If insider reports are to be believed, we can expect to see an Apple tablet in our hands by 2010.
Aiming to fill the gap between iPhone and Macbook, the device should be ideal for surfing the web and reading ebooks but intentionally not powerful enough to replace the Macbook.
Business Week’s Peter Burrows recently received word of Apple’s plans to build a tablet-based device, to be released in 2010. Now Gene Munster,of reputable investment bank and securities firm Piper Jaffray, has published a note reinforcing the plans.
“We expect Apple to fill the gap between the iPod touch and the MacBook with a new tablet device (not a netbook) priced at about $500-$700. Apple will likely leverage its multi-touch patents to differentiate its product from the typical netbook. We are anticipating a new category of Apple products with an operating system more robust than the iPhone’s but optimized for multi-touch, unlike Mac OS X. The device’s OS could bear a close resemblance to Apple’s mobile OS and run App Store apps, or it could be a modified version of Mac OS X.
Apple are reportedly in no rush to release a device, with a new iPhone release on the way and record profits from the App Store, Apple are likely to take their time and make sure they get the product right before pushing anything out prematurely.

Um, the iPhone OS *is* a modified version of OS X.
Hmm – larger iPod Touch with capability for extension of iPhone SDK to larger formfactor? Opens up whole new category of apps – multi-person interactive games, Bluetooth?, what about WiFi & Media Center type capabilities, or integration to AppleTV in some way. E-reader is an obvious thought.
Though the pricing seems a bit high, it’s not unlike Apple to reach for the limit there.
It might have multitouch cool but a dumbed down computer at that price would not be a good move. Remember when Apple purposely throttled back some of their line-up to make a spread of price points. Hope those were just the bad old days.
It will be too expensive to my pocket :-) But still cool…
Apple did it right when they came out with the Ipod, I cant wait to see what they have in store with this new device.
If this device is released, I think it would be fantastic as a media control center. It could be really, really interesting if it has a camera and video support.
Looking forward to this product so that I can view http://www.hongkongtourmap.com easily on the road.
So we’ll get a Macbook/Pro freshening in the next month or so, and then the tablet drops sometime around Q1 ’10. I already know I’m gonna buy the next Macbook. I’m due. I’ll just have to sit back and watch the tablet frenzy. *sigh*
Amazing! Apple Mac Book has already been very popular and now this technology is certainly going to rock the world. This is not only hi-tech but it is looking beautiful.

You can tell this is fake. the pic i mean. The pic is a mac screen with icons lined on the left side, and the on screen keyboard brought up. You can also see the mouse in the top right corner. If this pic isnt fake, im sorry, but I am very into photo shop, and can usually tell when things are “shopped”. Sorry once again if this pic is real.
Also, I dont doubt that they (apple) will make one, with it being an old technology that has pretty much faded into the backround (the tablet i mean). Happy Technologies!!!
