It has just come to my attention via Lifehacker that Gmail have now removed one of the most frustrating aspects of Gmail… The “on behalf of” that appears in Outlook, Hotmail and other email clients when sending from a secondary email address in your GMail account, is now gone!
It has always been one of those small, yet annoying and extremely significant features that would often make your emails look highly unprofessional – particularly for businesses.
Now you can ,without any hesitation, use one GMail account for all your email addresses - sending and receiving – without anyone discovering what your main default “aggregator” email address is. Wonderful.

Kewl. That’s it. I’m converting everything into Gmail now.
May keep one back for the ’911′ emergency messages.
And I’ll just hope Gmail doesn’t fail too much.
Totally awesome news, something that has always prevented me from using Gmail to send mail – instead it was something of an aggregator for a quick view to reply in a proper client. Good it’s gone though I’ll still stick to my desktop client at least for backup purposes.
Actually not the fix we all wanted, its a bug.
“Unfortunately, the “solution” you’re seeing here is a
bit of a red herring — it’s actually just a bug introduced in a recent Gmail update…”

No, this is not fixed
Outlook still shows the “on behalf of.”
I tried this and it was working great until this week. All of a suden On Behal Of has started apearing again on my messages. Anyone has any ide why this is happening?
As I said 2 posts earlier, this was a bug. It was not intended by Google.
They are working on a solution but it is not ready yet. See this Google group discussion:

Excerpt: “…it’s actually just a bug introduced in a
recent Gmail update that suppresses the ‘Sender’ field
unintentionally. We’ll be restoring the proper ‘Sender’ field behavior soon… but when we do that, “On Behalf Of” will return again for the time being.
I know it’s annoying, and we’re working to fix this “On Behalf Of” behavior as soon as we can…”
Thanks for pointing this out … am considering putting all my emails thru Gmail and using imap, so something to watch out for if I try to emulate Eudora’s (yes, still use that!) multiple personality approach with multiple “from” addresses.
I’d never noticed that before!
PS: Some nice posts you have here, thanks. I picked up the Canned Responses for multiple signatures and Image insert, both via enabling settings in Labs, from your other posts here!
But if you’re a google apps user and you want to send email from another apps account in the same domain, this will count against your daily SMTP send limit for the account your sending from right? Effectively limiting the # of emails you can send in a day to that one primary account. Am I correct? This is just my assumption from looking at this.
Chris, if you use Firefox, you can add images in your signature in Gmail.
It’s a plugin called WiseStamp.
