I stumbled upon an intruiging application today called F.lux, for OS X and Windows. After downloading and installing, which took seconds I might add, I was presented with a field to insert either my zip code (no use to me being based in the UK) or my latitude. After inserting my latitude coordinates (search for your city here), my Mac’s display lighting adjusted according to the time of day, being night – it was a halogen light effect.
Although, I’m not certain I’ll actively use the app, it’s definitely an interesting idea. Although I’ve seen other attempts at adjusting computer settings based on time of day, none have adjusted display lighting. I look forward to seeing whether f.lux develops further…

Cool, but not very useful since I have a lamp beside my computer.
1) Only Macbook Pros adjust brightness automatically (as far as I know, I’m not sure about the new Macbooks.)
2) They adjust display brightness, not the color, where as this tries to tint the display color to that of the surrounding light.
Luckily, Macbooks have this built in, and it adjusts to the actual brightness needed as opposed to time.
Cool app! :)
I find your post via FriendFeed…

Ambient light sensor for the win.
I use this, and it works quite well. I highly recommend it. It helps ease the light on your eyes and is customizable too.
