Twestival raises over $250,000 (and still counting)

Sorry, it’s another Twitter story – but one that you’ll probably find uplifting. The worldwide Twestival held on February 12th has raised a huge sum of money to aid charity: water – and there’s a nice write-up on blog of the Daily Telegraph, a UK daily paper.

When that first tweet went out just over a month ago, I never would have thought the result would be so incredible. Twestival has not only strengthened Twitter communities around the world, but has enabled us to provide clean and safe drinking water to over 17,000 people in developing countries. That is a huge achievement by a dedicated group of volunteers in such a short space of time and would not have been possible even two years ago, without Twitter. – Amanda Rose, Global Organiser of Twestival

202 cities around the world participated, and from an initiative that started just over a month ago on Twitter, the results have been rapid, and astonishing. Appropriately, 140 characters should sum up the story: From my local @Edtwestival, raising over £3500 / $5000: —

“The McTwitterati did Scotland proud with a tasty blend of live music, twitter geekery, huge generosity and damn good times.”
