Nice move by Google, but one bus for the millions of people of India with shiny large flat screens... A little out of touch with what the reality is on the ground. Furthermore, the Tamil language is restricted to the state of Tamil Nadu. Not exactly all of India, far from it.

I see you are a Google Devotee, maybe you have been too quick to spread this little news.

I beg to differ on that, here is some text from the source,

The Internet Bus Project is an attempt educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives, by taking the Internet experience to them through a customised Internet-enabled bus, "which will travel to several towns and cities across India".

At least, we can appreciate such initiatives which promote awareness about internet.

    Hi Srikanth,

You are very right with your point which is the core of the idea, but the methodology that is being applied by Google to accomplish this is a little out of touch.

    1. Tamil is only spoken in the state of Tamil Nadu, which is the most South Eastern state.
    2. A bus that moves around with 3 terminals is not something that will be easily accessed and whenever by its users.
    3. The ones that have not had real contact with the internet are those that are not educated or at the low rung of society, presenting this set-up to them is a little unrealistic and out of touch. They will be overwhelmed mainly by its aw than its functunality.

I personally think that Google could have easily set-up computer terminals around areas where users are usually unable to access it. Living it 24/7 in order to achieve its core goal, instead of spending valuable money on a glamorous GBus.

    Ciao,
